BLAME E.M.C. FOR THIS ONE:
So we have left the ideas of socialism & radical democracy behind…growing out of love with their promise of emancipation; maybe…really?---or was it the revolutions leaving us behind…growing out of love with us…who're screwing them up---over & over again…
THERE'S NO GRAVITY---THE EARTH SUCKS!
Saw a bit of violence on the street one day…& then the next day saw a bit of violence on the street…not that this is a city with lots of violent crimes in the statistics; this was petty violence, acts that never end up in court: boyfriend slaps girlfriend…---& an old man, 80 or so, slaps a kid who's harassing him…then the kid's mother who haven't done a thing about her nasty little humanoid's behaviour starts ranting---while her sister screams "ignore that old disgusting fart" from the other side of the street---& some caveman smacks the old guy---while the mother raves on non-stop; still. You look at all this happening; stunned.
1. ART WHO?
Escaping the institution, escaping the art historians & theoreticians…after all, they're just ripping off the ideas of artists & presenting them as their own---a year later or so. By that time the artists have gone on to different things & other ideas…so the problem isn't the rip off, but the jack off: the patronising elevation of art, the confidence trick of idealizing the mark---beware of a cultural pimp who wants to make a holy whore of art…
2. A TONIC OF POISON WITHOUT MEDICINAL EFFECT
Art "is" nothing good.
That "is" its point.
MACGUFFIN
Almost drowned out by Bob Dylan on the speakers in the shop does she even breath when she goes on for what seems forever on the cell phone: walking in the aisles looking at DVDs talking about how the Nazi genocide on the Jewish people is still remembered vividly nowadays---through how it is presented in popular culture… "Schindler's List or Holocaust did more to…" & "…I mean, who sits down & watches [Lanzmann's] Shoah that goes on for 9 hours after all?"…& she's got the sharp-edged glasses that's been recognisable university style for the last 15 years…so that look has been picked up anywhere by now. (Doesn't she get that?)
